Is your child safe online?
White Ladder, the parenting arm of book publishers Crimson, approached me in 2010; they were looking for a ‘journalist parent’ with experience of writing about technology. After hesitating at the scale, and potential complexity, of the project, I accepted.
The next few months involved intensive research with a wide cross-section of people. I spent countless hours talking to children of all age groups, as well as parents, the police, psychologists, teachers and headteachers, online safety moderators at some well known games, hacking experts, victims of child abuse, regulators and more.
On publication in 2011, I did numerous radio and print interviews to promote the book. Inevitably the book has dated but the project was both personally useful and professionally gratifying.
